Our Family Story: Version 1

Our Family Travel Story starts over a decade ago. We met and fell in love in the early 2000s at Texas A&M.  After graduation, we moved to different cities in Texas to pursue our careers. That first year we spent most of our modest 1st-job-salaries on plane tickets and gas.  We quickly realized we wanted to be in the same place, together, for like… ever. Once the ring was on the finger and the wedding plans started, we had conversations about where the would live. Neither of us wanted to move to the other’s city, so we thought about an adventure.

Just as our dreaming started, a HUGE snowstorm hit Denver, Colorado. It was so big it took over our www.yahoo.com news feeds at work. The articles showed photos of white-out conditions, happy skiers, and travelers stuck at DIA. For some reason, our bright-eyed 23-year-old selves agreed that Denver would be the place. Our plan at the time was to ‘go play’ in the mountains for a few years until we ‘get serious’ and ‘settle down’ – then we would move home. A few weeks after the wedding we made our way to Denver and we haven’t looked back. Being near the mountains with the views and the seasons and the outdoor community has done nothing but spur us on towards more adventuring.

We’ve had lots of incredible adventures since then. We got a dog, bought, and sold a few primary homes, and started a successful real estate investing company. We also have been traveling up into the mountains and beyond as much as possible. And of course, our greatest adventure has been our 3 kiddos.

Skip Ahead To 2018

About a year ago (summer 2018) we both started on a journey that has changed everything about the comfortable way we were living our life. You could call it a spiritual journey, to say the least. We started really examining our lives and how we were living them. With a healthy realization that we can create our life to be whatever we want it to be, we started to dream. Dreaming led to minimizing and minimizing led to open space… in our minds, heart, business, and physical home.

Once we got rid of most of our clutter, we started to look around at the huge gorgeous home we had and admitted, we didn’t need the space. We keep downsizing so we could short term rent the home out when we didn’t need it. The demand for our home is so high that we have now thought: welp, what’s next? After continued to minimize and simplify our stuff, business, and busyness, we have been able to focus on creating our next adventure…..

Full-Time Family Travel

We have committed to full-time family travel for a year.

It’s a thing. Millennial’s call it a ‘family gap year’ and some call the year away from organized school, ‘world schooling’. So, after months of preparation, we started our full-time travel on February 1st, 2020.

Follow Our Journey!

So we hope you’ll follow this adventure we’re on. We look forward to documenting Our Family Travel Story HERE on the blog! We would love to hear from you sometime – in a comment or an email when you get a chance. Here’s to the adventure! – Cheers!
